International law encompasses that body of customary norms, rules, principles of law, and legal standards acknowledged as binding on sovereign states in their bilateral relations. In this legal realm, international law can be viewed as a system of laws generally existing outside the domestic legal schemes of sovereign states. The tapestry of international law is woven from multiple sources, including resolutions of international organizations, international conventions, treaties, equity, decisions of international judicial proceedings, and the like.
